The Situation
An owner in Al Barsha had a remote fob where the lock and unlock buttons had stopped responding reliably. The key still started the car, so the immobiliser side was fine, but the remote functions had become intermittent and the buttons felt spongy.
How We Approached It
We opened the fob and inspected the internals rather than assuming a new fob was needed. The rubber button pads had worn through to the contacts underneath and the battery was near the end of its life, which together explained the intermittent behaviour.
We replaced the worn button contacts and fitted a fresh battery, then reassembled the housing and re-synced the fob to the vehicle so the rolling code was back in step. Re-syncing is the step commonly missed, and its absence is why a repaired fob sometimes still appears dead.
The Result
The remote now locks and unlocks the car first press, every press, and the owner kept their original fob instead of paying for a new one to be supplied and programmed. We tested range from several distances before handing it back.
Why repairing beats replacing a fob
A new fob has to be supplied and then programmed to the vehicle, which is a meaningfully larger bill than replacing worn contacts and a battery in the fob already paired to the car. Unless the board itself has failed, repair keeps the original handset in service. The step people miss at home is re-syncing afterwards, which is why a fresh battery alone often seems to change nothing.
