The Situation
An Al Quoz warehouse holding valuable stock was still fitted with standard commercial cylinders. Those locks are vulnerable to snapping and picking, and with several staff and contractors having held keys over the years, the operator had no confidence in who could get in.
How We Approached It
We assessed the doors and the actual risk profile: a warehouse with high-value contents and multiple key holders needs both physical attack resistance and control over key duplication. Addressing only one of those leaves the site exposed.
We fitted drill-resistant and pick-resistant cylinders to the external doors and moved the site onto a restricted keyway, so blanks cannot be bought and copies require documented authorisation from the operator.
The Result
The doors now resist the common forced-entry methods used against commercial premises, and the operator holds a register of every key issued. Contractors can be given keys and have them properly retired afterwards, which was impossible with the previous open-market cylinders.
Why restricted keys change the picture
A high-security cylinder resists physical attack, but it does nothing about the copy a former contractor had cut at a shop three years ago.
